Home

Well, I finally adopted another Lab to share my home with me. Introducing Melvin, a two year old Black Labrador who was in need of a new home. He was raised by a Leader for the Blind organization but unfortunately he did not pass the finals to be a service dog. He was given a second chance for six months by a nice family, but in these times many people have life changes so he needed a new family. I was informed about the opportunity via a text from a good friend (who’s life mission is to connect dogs with homes) and I contacted the owner to see if would be a good fit. It was, so on October 19th I pick up Melvin and brought him to his new home.

Marvin

We have spent the last few days getting to know each other, setting boundaries,  and setting up a new schedule for both of us. I now have been adopted by a Chocolate, Yellow, and now Black Labrador. I will update his website soon to reflect our adventures as I get time.

Welcome to your new home Melvin!

Joey was born June 8th 2004. He had a loving family but they realized a young Labrador was a lot to handle. So, at eight months old they decided to put him up for adoption and find a suitable home. They placed an ad in the Ann Arbor News (an actual newspaper then) in the “freebie” section and I saw the ad thinking it was time for me to get another dog. I called and explained my situation and I was invited over for an interview, so I gathered up pictures of Zeke and my property survey and drove to their home. We bonded immediately and they realized I would be a good companion for the pup.

Cody going home with me

Joey was a rambunctious Labrador and he jumped right into my truck for the trip home. I had slight second thoughts wondering what I had just committed to but that faded while driving home. On February 19th, 2005 Joey entered his new home and my life would never be the same. He romped in my yard and we went for a walk with a friend in the ‘hood. A few days later I decided to rename him Cody because of my family history, Joey was fine with being called Cody so he kept that name for thirteen years.

I will also write about my first dog Zeke. He was not the social media dog Cody was but I still have fond memories of him and many pictures. They were very different dogs but both wonderful companions and you are welcome to read about our stories together while I grieve the loss of Cody.
